Today, we celebrate Dame Agatha’s 125th birthday! I started reading her novels late last year and ever since then I was hooked. The way she writes and makes plot twists on her novels is what I love about her. Her writings style is also good considering that it was written in the earlier years although some of her novels, especially when you read her Hercule Poirot books, there are sometimes a few french words that you’ll be encountering. But nonetheless, her writing is easy to understand.
So in honor of Dame Agatha’s birthday, I will recommend my Top 5 Books by the Queen of Mystery! If you haven’t read any of Agatha’s maybe you should start with these!
1. And Then There Were None
This was the first Agatha Christie novel that I have ever read. This book follows 10 guests who have been invited in to a private island by a mysterious host. Each one of them has been marked for murder. And one by one they fall pray in this mysterious island.
2. Murder on The Orient Express
Another one of my favorites!
This book had a major plot twist in the end that made me dumbfounded and made me question myself why I didn’t see that coming. This follows Michael Starkwedder when he enters the home of the Warwicks through a window in the study. He finds the dead body of Richard Warwick, and finds Warwick’s wife, Laura, holding a gun that supposedly killed him. Despite the murder being obvious, and overwhelming evidence pointing towards it, Starkwedder does not believe she killed him, and she soon tells him she’s innocent.
4. Miss Marple’s Final Cases
My favorite character from Agatha Christie’s novels are Miss Marple. I just love how she solves crime and I get this very cute visual of her as a grandmother who looks so sweet but kicks butts in the inside. These compilation of Miss Marple’s short stories are great for those who are just starting to read Agatha’s work.
5. Murder in Mesopotamia
Nurse Amy Leatheran agrees to look after archaeologist Dr Leidner’s wife Louise at a dig, she finds herself taking on more than just nursing duties: she also has to help solve murders. This is another Hercule Poirot novel.
So these are my Top 5 Agatha Christie novels! I hope you get to pick up an Agatha Christie novel soon and let me know what you think of it! And until then, Cheers!
